Four new Hobie champions crowned on The Bay of Roses

Hobie16worlds Youth Women Ggm Grand Masters Z62 5927

Day 3 Women/Youth/Grand Masters and Great Grand Masters Division  Day 3 of racing for the Women/Youth/Grand Masters and Great Grand Masters.

The final day of this series delivered champion Hobie sailing conditions. Four more races were completed over two sessions today, concluding the series. On the water the sailors were energized going into the final day as some tried to consolidate their finish while others worked to improve their standing. The first session saw winds of 18-21 knots with 1.5-meter waves. The sea state was a bit confused all day leading to really wet conditions on-board that put a premium on upwind steering technique. Later in the day during session two the winds moderated a bit to 15 knots, but the sea state kept the conditions “sporty” all day.

In the Grand Masters, Rod Waterhouse and Kerry Waterhouse (AUS) are our new World Champions, They were followed by William Edwards and Lucinda Edwards (RSA) in second and Jens Goritz and Michela Piu (GER) took third.

In the Great Grand Masters it was USA for the top three spots with Peter Nelson and Holly Deuterman(USA) being crowned Champions followed by Michael Montague and Kathleen Ward, and Blair Wallace and Sasha Wallace respectively in second and third.

In the Women’s series, Caterina Degli Uberti and Diana Rogge (ITA) top the top spot, followed by Bella Zanesco and Juliet Bates(AUS) with Carmen Andrews and Haylie Andrews(AUS) picking up third.

Finally in the Youth series Valerio Tomassi and Eva Orsolini (ITA) were number one, with Ben Jochims and Paula Deppenbrock (GER) coming second, and Morgan Smith and Annabel Luxton (GBR) coming third.

Tomorrow is transition to the onsite qualifying for the open world championships. The Hobie Class requires all teams to qualify to compete in the open. Sailors can either pre-qualify in their home country or sail on the onsite qualifier. The next three days will select the teams that advance into the semi-final rounds of the open championship.
